Chapters today face increasing financial exposure. Payment platforms such as PayPal, Eventbrite, and other processing systems now issue 1099 reporting, placing chapter financial activity under greater tax visibility and regulatory scrutiny than ever before.
Additionally, many chapters encounter banking challenges due to improper nonprofit registration or inconsistent documentation practices. Without standardized guidance, risk increases.
Establish standardized Methods & Procedures across all chapters to ensure:
Uniform financial record-keeping
Proper documentation and compliance
Seamless chapter-to-state reporting
Deploy fraternity-wide best practices to:
Improve banking compliance and nonprofit registration
trengthen internal controls
Provide financial training and guidance
Prepare chapters for audits and tax reporting requirements
Implement a Regional Investment Policy to grow and protect our resources:
Conservative Strategy:
• Fixed income and money market instruments
• Currently earning ~5.5% risk-free returns
Growth Strategy:
• S&P 500 index investments
• Historically averaging ~10% long-term returns
Establish formal M&P’s for accurate financial record-keeping
Secure a standardized General Ledger Chart of Accounts
Schedule independent audits to ensure compliance
Maintain complete supporting documentation for every transaction
Introduce long-term investment planning for sustainable growth
